Sean is a Focus Puller and Ronin 2/4D technician, having specialised on the DJI gimbal while working on Netflix’s Adolescence. He has worked across a wide range of camera systems from the early days of the Arri Alexa classic, to Sony Venice, Panasonic Varicam, Alexa LF, Alexa 35 and many more. He has historic experience on 16mm and 35mm from his days as a loader, and is keen for the opportunity to work on film again as a focus puller.
With bases in Liverpool and London, Sean has worked extensively abroad and is willing to continue to work anywhere in the world. He has filmed bears in Alaska, volcanoes in Hawaii, redwoods in California; as well as New Zealand, South Africa, Malta, France and Spain. His has worked across all production formats – Features, HETV, commercials, music promos and documentaries.
Sean’s passion lies in both camera rigging challenges and using ‘the force’ to pull focus. He also loves to teach what he knows to his assistants and trainees; and provides lessons and drills to pass his skills along whenever there is downtime on set and during prep.
He has appeared in a number of print articles about his experience shooting Adolescence in publications such as British Cinematographer and Film and Digital Times, and has spoken at a Masterclass at Forward Film & TV Festival – sharing his insight into shooting hour long continuous takes across multiple camera stabilisation solutions; including jibs, drones, tracking vehicles and tricky camera handoffs.
Sean prides himself on a professional and friendly attitude on set. He prioritises forging strong working relationships with production and adjacent departments. Sean has a first principals engineering approach to problem solving on set. He is a proactive planner, favouring maximum lead time and flexibility when making arrangements, and he aims to quietly provide support to DOPs and operators when needed.
Sean has learned a lot about VFX processes concerning the camera department on his latest feature film, Enola Holmes 3; and is keen to continue developing these and other overlap skills into the future of his career. To this end he is eager to meet and work with more DOPs on both long and short formats in the near future.
