Inspiration: My inspiration comes from a variety of places. I’m just as happy creating fantasy worlds with spaceships as I am in the suburbs of London. I enjoy taking inspiration from current interior designers, such as Abigail Ahern, Tom Dixon or House of Hackney, as well as the graphics, textiles and architecture of earlier designers such as William Morris & Eames. Fashion influences my designs, people like Mary Quant, artists such as Warhol and the Art of Factory Records.
Colour, furniture and textile trends over the recent decades and Colour Theory are what drives my work. My design process always begins with translating the characters’ life into colour palettes, using it to pull audiences into the mood of the scenes and to compliment skin tones.
Career Highs: Getting to design and build a 360° spaceship for ‘Solitary’ (2020) & a recent International Emmy Nomination for ‘Dreaming Whilst Black’ (2021).
Also, being on the judging panel for ‘Best Production Design’ for the BAFTA’s this year was an honour.
